Direct Support Professional
DSP
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with ADLs (bathing, dressing, grooming, meal prep).
- Support individuals with diverse needs including Alzheimer’s, dementia, and autism.
- Monitor vitals and document changes in health status.
- Implement individualized care plans and maintain HIPAA compliance.
- Maintain a safe, clean living environment and hygiene standards.
- Assist with medication administration as directed by clinicians.
- Engage clients in community and social activities.
- Provide companionship and emotional support.
- Use lifts (e.g., Hoyer) for safe transfers when needed.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams for coordinated care.
Requirements
- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).
- Experience in group home or assisted living settings (preferred).
- Strong observation skills to note behavioral/health changes.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting for mobility assistance.
- Knowledge of caregiving for senior, hospice, and long-term care.
- Familiarity with home health services and community resources.
- Clear, professional communication with clients, families, and teams.
- Understanding of DSP principles for supporting people with disabilities.
- Cooking/meal prep experience tailored to dietary needs is a plus.
